The Big Pile of Stuff

All of this stuff, except for a few additional things, came out of my bedroom. It’s so much nicer in there now. I can actually move around. I can’t believe how many bags I filled up! It’s so nice to have it out of my living room now too.

The bags filled up the whole back of the truck

Next time, I think I’ll get rid of it as I finish going through it. I thought it would feel good to see how much space was freed up by seeing it all together but it didn’t work. Instead, I’m feeling a lot of anxiety about it. That was a lot of stuff that I gave away and I’m wondering if I really did the right thing or if I should have tried to sell some of it. I’m wondering if things accidentally ended up in the bags. Thoughts like those are going through my head right now. Hopefully I’ll feel better about it tomorrow.

I learned a lesson and next time I’ll do it differently.

  • Feisty, (Jennifer) has a great point- keep on using black bags! I’m so proud of you , Jen!! You are de-cluttering! That’s the whole point! And you’re doing it! Yep, now you know the best way is for it to leave the house immed. That works best for me too! A box, or bag at the time, whatever- get it out the door! But now you’ve made a huge, impressive difference in your room! Enjoy the freedom, and space!

  • I always get rid of the stuff when I fill a bag or box. I might make more trips to donate it but it decreases those feelings you are having. It also keeps a different area from becoming the “storage” place and becoming more cluttered.

    • Yep, next time…. out it goes!! As fast as possible! I don’t know what I was thinking but that was a terrible idea I had! Lol!

  • I agree with getting rid of things quickly. For me once I’ve made the decision I want it GONE. I don’t want time to start waffling around rethinking or worse, start digging around in the stuff. One way I do this with larger items especially is slap a FREE sign on them and put them by the road. I’ve had so much stuff disappear that way!

    • I’ve given away tons of stuff that way over the last year. I set up tables in my front yard and then put up a “Free Stuff” sign. Unfortunately, we have too much snow here to do it in the winter! And I’m definitely not saving any of it until it’s warm enough to set the tables up again.. LOL! I’m glad I tried this experiment though because now I know that I just have to get rid of it quickly too.

  • Don’t stress about it. I know the feeling, but best to just let it go. If you end up missing something, you can always replace it. And if you don’t miss it, then it obviously wasn’t that important. (I know it’s really easy for me to say this to you, but I am also saying it to myself because I feel the same way… I hope I can take my own advice… )
