The List of House Goals for 2018

I’m very anxious to finish up this house.  It’s far from being done but I only have a few minutes here and there to work on it so it’s taking forever.  In the meantime, the list keeps getting longer and longer.

Outside

Front yard needs a lot of work. Everyone has been throwing things into a utility trailer and we need to go through it.  It’s so full right now that there’s a bike sticking out over the top of the sides.  It makes the yard look like a junk yard.

Front Porch

I want to take everything off the front porch and start over.  I would like to see it as a clean slate.  This is the main project for this year but it’s also a summer project so I won’t be starting on it for awhile.

Living Room

Christmas tree needs to come down.  Lots more decluttering.  Desk project – my son is making a desk but we’ve been disagreeing on the height that it should be for about a year now.  If we ever agree, he’ll finish it up.

More decluttering

Finishing touches, like replacing molding by the doorways.

Hang pics on walls

Kitchen

I would like to start over in here too but I need to get some more decluttering done first. I have a wall that I can hang all of my pots and pans on but they aren’t even close to fitting.  I’d like to get the majority of them to fit.

Bathroom

Needs an actual remodel.  This year.  Just need to save up more money.

Hallway

Carpet needs to come out but I was hoping to wait until the bathroom was finished.  I’m still debating on whether or not I will get started or wait.  I have enough to do besides this so if I don’t get to it, it’s okay.  However, the carpet is really ugly and worn out.  It’s gross.

Upstairs

The storage room is the biggie up here.  With the kids moving around, this room has been filling up again.  It needs a lot of work but it’s my current project.  I’d like to finish it in the next couple of weeks.

Bedroom

Go through more clothes.  I have severe thyroid problems so I gain and lose a lot of weight often.  I need to get rid of all the clothes that I’m not crazy about.

Attic room

Decluttering.  This room was the stash and dash room for awhile so it’s stuffed full.  It also has a lot of my son’s things in it.  Since he has a house now, I might pack some of it up and take it to him.

Garage

Major decluttering necessary.  The garage is one of those areas that ends up being a catch all.  There’s way too much random stuff in here and when the door is open, it screams “Hoarders live here”.

Basement

Major decluttering.  This is probably the very worst area of the house right now.  It needs a lot of work but I hate being down there so I always procrastinate on it.

The Whole House

The whole entire house still needs general decluttering.

  • Seems like you have a few projects for this year, Jen.

I know it’s hard to know where to start, but maybe an idea could be to make a list over what part bugs you the most, and start there? Or check your list and start where the impact would be the most.. like the room you use the most, or the part of the house that greets you when you walk in… ?

I know it can be difficult.. especially since we tend to just want it all done at the same time 😉 But I know you, you’ll get on a roll again.. and before you know it things will be flying out of the house 😉

  • It can seem overwhelming. When I have a list like that, I force myself to do one item at the time, start to finish. As the list gets shorter, I feel better. Best of luck on your endeavor.

  • I have a similar list and progress can be slow either due to time or motivation. I seem to make a big effort at the start, then plod along with slow progress for weeks/months, and then have a final push to get a room finished. I’m currently working on a ceiling. 😀
