The Day I Met Jackson Galaxy

jackson

I had the pleasure of going to see Jackson Galaxy tonight.  He is the Cat Daddy.  The Cat Guy.  The Cat Whisperer.  He’s the star of “My Cat From Hell”.  It’s a show where he goes to people’s houses and helps them with their troubled cats.

I started watching the show a few years ago.  During one particular show, I couldn’t tell you about the cat but there was a very troubled young lady living with her mom.  They were having a terrible time with her cat and her mom was threatening to get rid of it.  I think some of that was just drama that the TV producers were asking for but what happened on that show was beautiful.  That girl needed Jackson at that moment in her life.

I can’t remember the conversation between Jackson and the girl but it touched my heart so deeply that I thought, “Wow.. I would love to be in a room with him, even just for 5 minutes, just to stand in his greatness.”  My next thought was that he lives on the West Coast  and I’m in the Midwest so there’s no way that I would ever meet him.  Never ever in a million years.  How would I?  I have no intention of ever visiting the west coast.

How Will I Ever Get to Meet Him?

One day, a few months later, my friend sent me a newsletter about a horse and I happened to see an ad on the same page. It was an advertisement that Jackson was coming to town.  I couldn’t believe it.  Was this for real?  I went online and bought tickets right that very minute.

I didn’t know what to expect because I don’t go to many theater shows.  The ad didn’t say whether we would get to meet him or not but I just knew that I had to.  Again, the thought crossed my mind that there was no way that I would really get to meet him.  Maybe after the show he would get whisked away through a back door and rushed to the next show.  Or maybe there would just be too many people and my daughter wouldn’t have the patience to wait with me.

His presentation turned out to be hilarious and at the end of the show, we did get to meet him.  He was as great as I thought he was going to be, actually a little more than I was even expecting.  I told him my story about how I didn’t think that I would ever get to meet him and I couldn’t believe that I was standing in the same room as him.  It was incredible!

It’s Like Seeing An Old Friend Again

That show was a year ago.  He came back today.  He was just as funny as he was last year. It was another spectacular show.  Absolutely wonderful.  At the end of the show, he stands at a table and you get in a long line and then when you get to him, you can take a picture with him and he signs your book that you get with your ticket, and he’s just so nice.  Meeting him the second time was like seeing a really good friend again after a year.  Like the kind of friend where you pick up right where you left off the last time you saw them no matter how long it’s been.

I feel like the luckiest person alive right now.
