Working on the Mountain of Stuff

This lack of time is really hard.  Somehow, I managed to find an hour this evening to work on the mountain of stuff from the front porch that’s still in my living room.  I have quite a few things to add to my count!  Yay!!  I’m struggling harder than usual with a few of these things but I’m going to take them away tomorrow.  It’s always hard for me to give away brand new things or expensive things but hopefully I forget about these quickly.

  • 21 brand new clothes items (jackets, shirts, shorts, and jeans)
  • 14 random pieces of Tupperware
  • 6 pieces of non-random pieces of Tupperware
  • 2 little wash tubs
  • String of bells
  • Big Piece of Styrofoam

That’s 45 more things that I never have to pick up again!

Grand Decluttering Total = 2,321 things out of the house!

I just need to share this.  It kind of bothered me.  When I took a couple bags to one of my local donation places the other day, the guy was a little rude and I’m very hesitant to take any more stuff there.  I had a bag with a few clothes and some nice boots and a couple other things in there.  He took the bag and then said, “Oh, is this just all clothes?” and I said, “No, I don’t think so.  I think I have some boots in there and a carpet and stuff like that.”  He took it but told me that they don’t take carpet, but I didn’t mean carpet, I meant a rug.  It was a nice bathroom type rug that my mom had sent over here.  Anyways, after I tried to explain that I meant a rug and not a carpet, he took the whole bag and threw it in a bin outside the door.

It kind of left me feeling like they aren’t even going to look at what I gave them.  Maybe they just have too much stuff there.  Now I feel like I should set the free table up instead of donating all those brand new clothes but I definitely don’t have time.

  • that must have felt discouraging. I agree with the others who have suggested finding another outlet to donate to. Failing that then see if there is a manager you can speak to. Sometimes these place get swamped but they should still treat people with respect.

  • That is a frustrating story. maybe find a new store to donate to? Not every town has a lot of options, I guess. Or maybe next time it will be a different guy? Keep driving if it’s the same guy.

  • I am sure they will look at them. the donations are sorted, organized, and located by many different personnel I assume. Sometime this kind of unfortunate interactions does happen, but i come to realize that this is for a good reason. For example, now I am aware that I need to be careful about what I say while I deliver my stiff to donation centers… never thought about that before. Like yourself, I also would like the donations to be useful for others. But as you also said it is always possible to give them away too, whatever works for you! you are already doing awesome sorting out them and donating 🙂

    • I hope all they were doing was sorting. It’s kind of silly for me to take it all the way there if they’re just going to throw it away.

  • I know it’s difficult, but try to put the jerk behind you. Some people just don’t appreciate anything. If anything, you might give the store a call and let them know how you feel. There are people out there that will appreciate your donations though, so you have that to still think of.

  • Oh no! I’m sorry to hear he was rude.
Brand new things? Maybe a free table would be better! Unless you could donate them to a foster family, or something??
When you’re short on time, I know you need to do the easy thing.
I’m so proud of you Jen!!
