Rough Time at the County Fair

Some days I wonder if spending all this time decluttering is worth it in the end.  I thought I was getting pretty organized.  I thought I took care of most of the stressful stuff for the county fair but after four days of excessive heat and strong thunderstorms, we’ve completely fallen apart.

The first day went super smoothly.  I got up early and got to the fairgrounds to set everything up.  My organization was impressive.  I had made plans for someone to come pick up our horse and that went off without a hitch.  It only took him about 10 minutes to load up with only a small amount of fuss.  The last attempt at loading him took 4 hours so this was easy.  We made one more trip home for a few things and then we were set for the rest of the day.

Thursday started out good too.  Around 8:00 a.m. we had a big ugly storm but it wasn’t too awful.  Throughout the day, there were a few things that we couldn’t find but all in all, it was okay.  At about 7:00 p.m., it was still incredibly hot and another storm was brewing.  We had survived the earlier storm so we decided to try to wait it out in the horse barn.

Big Mistake.

The storm came in like a ferocious lion and the incoming weather reports were bad.  A group of sheriffs came storming into the barn and told us that we were being evacuating us immediately.  There was nothing quiet about anything they did.  The kids were already freaking out and these sheriffs just caused mass panic with the way they made their entrance.  The closest solid building was across the fairgrounds. It was not fun trying to run there in the lightening.

Friday seemed to be going okay but then my daughter forgot part of a pattern and was disqualified from her first class.  It wasn’t a great way to start the day.  Things started looking up with a red ribbon in the next class.  The tack stall is by now a mess and the horse just doesn’t seem to be acting right.

Here we are on Saturday and the horse is sick.  He’s not colicking yet but he was sick enough that we had to drop out of the rest of the day’s events.  I’m so sad and bummed about the way this fair is going.

More Storms Coming

And now to top it off, the sky is getting darker and darker as another storm is approaching.  Time to close up the camper windows for the umpteenth time this week.  Hopefully we won’t have to make a mad dash this time.
