It’s a beautifully perfect free table day! Â I got up early this morning and set up two tables. Â My mom was willing to help me get everything out. Â We dragged the buckets out by the curb and set it all up. Â Then I stuck the sign in the ground and voila! Free table!!
My mom is great and buys cool stuff for us all the time. Â I keep telling her to stop but she’s a mom so she doesn’t listen. Â Of course, she was going nuts today as she was putting stuff out. Â “This is so cute!” Â “I think so and so can use this!” “This is brand new!” Â It was hilarious. Â I told her that she could take whatever she wanted for whoever she wanted but she couldn’t bring it back here.
I kept telling her that with all this stuff out, it barely made a dent in my house. Â Later she kept asking me, “Did it really not make a dent?” Â I said, “Yes, really, it didn’t make a dent.” Â If I want to keep all of it, I need a much bigger house. Â Since that’s not going to happen any time soon, it needs to go.
What if the Free Table is a Flop?
I’m always worried that no one is going to stop and take anything, especially on days like today. Â My road is usually a busy road but there’s construction a few blocks away that is redirecting the traffic a different way so it’s pretty quiet today. Â Someone with about 4 or 5 kids stopped a little while ago and took a lot of it but there’s still quite a bit left on the tables. Â I hope more of it goes.
I will leave it set up until around 7 or 7:30.  Everything that’s left is getting put in bags and then it’s going to Goodwill. I’m not letting it come back into the house.  I still have lots more to go but this is all that fit on the tables today.
What a brilliant idea! Never heard the term ‘free table’ before, but it is a brilliant idea. Maybe it is a US thing – I live in the UK. I have occasionally seen people having what you call a yard sale but it isn’t that common around where I live. Free stuff is GOOD!
LOL!! I kind of made the term “free table” up because I didn’t know what else to call it! Then it kind of grew on me and I even made a website but it’s all messed up and I haven’t had time to fix it! Oh well, maybe I’ll have time after I get rid of all this stuff around here 🙂
Such a perfect idea! Thank you for being so generous!
how nice of you. I am sure the new owners will enjoy them 🙂
This is awesome! I wish I had a way to do this but I live in an apartment and they definitely wouldn’t allow us to do it. Or if there was a place to drop off stuff (like a thrift store) but that just gave it away for free… though I guess that kind of place wouldn’t be able to pay for any sort of rent.
We used to have a place that did that with kids clothes and toys. You would take a bag of stuff there and then you could get a bag. It was for anyone and I think some moms started it. I have no idea who was paying the rent on the place or if they got the space free. Then somehow it morphed into a social services thing and they moved and put all these rules into place. At that point, it changed to low income people only too when they took it over. I think that wrecked it and I don’t even know if it’s still around. I doubt it.
