Beautiful Weather for Cleaning out the Trailer

A couple weeks ago, I bought a new used horse trailer.  Yay!  My old trailer didn’t have enough windows and it was a little too small for my horse.  We love the old trailer but it just wasn’t great for Flash. Just like the house, the trailer has way too much stuff in it.  When we were starting out, we used to go to tack sales and buy anything and everything that was cheap because we didn’t know what we needed.  Now when we go, we only buy what we need but we still have a lot of the remnants left over from our buy everything days.  There’s also a lot of things that just need to be replaced so it’s out with the old and in with the new.

It’s been cloudy, cold, and rainy here for weeks!  There hasn’t been a single day that was nice enough for cleaning out the trailer.  Finally, it’s beautiful today.  It’s sunny and supposed to be in the 60’s… ahhhh warm!

Time to start unloading the trailer!!!

Day 11 of Bedroom Decluttering and Finally Done

I was going to keep working on my bedroom until I had 14 good days of decluttering finished.  But I decided that I’m done after day 11.  I’ve gotten rid of well over 500 things and I spent some time dusting and vacuuming in there today.  Next time I have a little money, I would like to find a new comforter but the one I have now works just fine.

My dresser and closet are both still too full and could use another round of decluttering but I’m ready to move on to the kitchen.  I did manage to find one more pile of stuff to get rid of today.  Here’s the final bedroom list:

  • Holey jeans
  • Eastery shirt
  • Swim shorts
  • Pair of sandals
  • 3 single sandals
  • Pack of Rev-a-locks (these are locks that go inside cabinets and then you use a magnet on the outside to unlock the cabinet)
  • Cucumber lotion (I hate the smell of cucumber lotions so I don’t know why I had so many)
  • Homemade hacky sack (you can make them with sand and balloons)
  • Tealight candle
  • Some blue plastic thing (I have no idea what in the world this is)
  • Feather duster (I tried dusting with it but ended up putting more dust in the room so I guess that means it’s time to get rid of it)
  • Light Control module
  • Snowflake pillow case
  • Camping themed pillow case
  • Shirt
  • Khaki pants
  • Jeans
  • Sweatshirt
  • Light jeans
  • Feather duster
  • Howdy Doody Hallmark ornament
  • Scarlett from Gone with the Wind Hallmark ornament
  • Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind Hallmark ornament
  • Basketball playing mouse Hallmark ornament
  • Brother puppy Hallmark ornament
  • Monkey with a banana Hallmark ornament
  • 2013 Somebunny new to love at Christmas Hallmark ornament
  • Soccer playing seal Hallmark ornament
  • Three Wishes Hallmark ornament
  • Teddy bear in a shoe Hallmark ornament
  • Another Hallmark ornament
  • A vacuum cleaner canister full of dust (Ok, I can’t really count this one but there was so much dust in there that you would think I put it in there on purpose!!)

That’s a total of 33 things today!

bedroom decluttering day 11

Final Bedroom Decluttering Total after 11 Days = 542 things

I still have all of the bags that are ready to go.  I’m going to pile them up in a little bit, take some pics, and then take them somewhere to donate them.  I wanted to do it this way so that I could see the actual amount of space that I’m freeing up by getting rid of all these things.  I’ll post them as soon as I get a chance.

Grand decluttering total for the whole house = 2,029 things that I never have to pick up again!  Yay!! I have finally gotten over 2,000!!

Cleaning Before Company Comes for Thanksgiving

It’s midnight.  Today did not go as I expected.  The plan was to go to work, participate in a potluck lunch, then come home and clean for awhile.  What?  Cleaning all in one day and not panicking about it?

Anyways, I made it to work okay and the day was progressing at a good pace.  It was 20 minutes until the potluck lunch.  My mouth was watering from the smell of the shredded turkey.  It looked so delicious.  I love turkey.  And then, my daughter called and that’s when the whole entire day got twisted around.

She called me at work and sounded a little shook up.  I asked her what was wrong and she told me that she had bruises all over her legs.  They just appeared and they were pretty big.  She had made the mistake of looking it up on Google and found all kinds of scary diagnosis like leukemia, diabetes, and liver diseases.  I told her to get to my work as quickly as she could and I would go with her to urgent care.

We were there for two and a half hours.  I missed my lunch.  The doctor didn’t really give us any answers.  He did some lab work but didn’t really find anything.  He said to come back in 2 weeks and get retested.  I went back to work for a half hour and then headed home an hour early.  I started cleaning right away.  I’m simply amazed at how nice it looks in here.  I’m also amazed at how much decluttering I still have to do but the cleaning wasn’t frantic or stressful.  I just had a few things to do and I had a plan.  I can even say that I’m not going to be embarrassed when my new son-in-law or my new daughter-in-law come over during this holiday weekend.

The other great thing that happened was that I was walking around in socks at home tonight.  I know that’s something that most people take for granted but when your house is in a hoarding state, you can’t do that or you might really hurt your feet.   There’s so many small pointy little things that end up on the floor that you have to wear shoes to protect your feet.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Finally Unstuck and Starting on the Front Porch

costumesThings haven’t moved much in the last 2 weeks.  I was stuck emotionally and physically but I’m not really sure why.  I let go of 1,180 things in September and early October which is a lot but there’s so much more to go.

As I was getting rid of things today, I wasn’t going to count.  I was just going to get rid of things but decided that I need those numbers.  So, I counted.  78 more things that I will never have to bend down to pick up again. That’s such a motivating thought!

The things that ended up in the box were at least 15 single socks, some bracelets, a headband, some gloves, a magazine and a bunch of other things.  I was a little disappointed since it didn’t seem like much but then I pulled out the Halloween costumes.  I was expecting it to be hard to go through them because of all the trick or treat memories. To my surprise, it wasn’t hard at all to let them go.  I got rid of 15 costumes!   I’m a little bit amazed with myself!

Starting on the Front Porch

My front porch is still out of control.  I wasn’t going to start it until I was done with the living room but it can’t wait any longer.  Starting small is better than not starting at all.  For today, I was going to look for one thing but then decided that in order to finish in the next 3 weeks, I better double it.  I got rid of two things.  There’s enough things out there that I could’ve kept going after the first few things but for time’s sake, I decided to stop.

Pics of the Storage Room Progress

This is how the room looked when I started…  (YIKES!!!)

You couldn’t barely get in the doorway!!

This was about 3/4 of the way through the 23 days.

And this is the room now…

Ok, there’s way too many buckets still but this is PROGRESS.

Day 23 of the 21 Day Decluttering Challenge

I don’t feel like counting things today but I’m going to anyways.  I need to keep up with the progress.  I wasn’t expecting to be home tonight but I was and managed to get rid of a few things.  I’m also going to need to come up with a new title since we’re past day 21 now!  I’ll try to think of something new tomorrow.

  • Yellow backpack – Kitty not included
  • 3 Plastic bags
  • Canvas grocery bag with broken handle
  • Scarf

  • 42 various papers not in the pic either

decluttering challenge

67 things!

Granted a few of them were doubles but I figured that I had to convince someone to let me get rid of them a second time so I counted them again.

And what do you all think about the papers?  Do you count each paper or just throw them away without counting them at all?  Do you count them as “1 pile of papers”?  I can’t decide but I hate going through piles of papers so maybe I should count them.  I won’t ever have to touch them again and that’s what I’m going for.

I wish that I would have gone to see my horse tonight.  There’s not going to be many nice evening left and I haven’t been out there in almost a week.  I just want to get this done but I need to make myself do things I enjoy too.

Grand total = 1,180 since September 1st, 2016.

Long Hard Day of Decluttering on Day 22

It was another long hard day of decluttering and feeling like I’m making no progress.  It’s a good reminder that I just wasted another entire day moving around STUFF!! I have so many other things that I need to get done this weekend that it’s frustrating that I’m spending it doing this.  I think if I could see a difference, I wouldn’t feel so bad about it but my living room is still completely full.  How many more hundreds of things do I have to get rid of before you’ll be able to tell that I’ve done anything at all?

I have to leave in a few minutes but here’s what I’ve accomplished for today: (not enough in my opinion!)

  • 11 Ink Cartridges for a Cannon Printer.  These might have to go on eBay because one of them has a $29.99 price tag on it.  They were given to me so I’m not sure how old they are.  Maybe I could sell them for 5 or 10 dollars.

130 Things!!

decluttering challenge day22day22-3My last count after 21 days of decluttering was 993 things.  Now here’s another 130.  It sounds like so many.  I don’t get why you can’t tell when you come in my house.  I’ll keep at it but I hope you can start seeing a difference soon.

Counting is helping me tremendously.  I love knowing that there’s 1,123 things from in my house that I will never have to pick up again!  What a relief!  I don’t know why I love that thought so much but I do.  That’s one thing that has made a lot of sense to me.  If it’s not in my house, I don’t have to be responsible for it or pick it up or find it a home.  Love it!

I almost forgot to mention.. I found an Amazon gift card with $5.26 on it and a Target gift card with $1.74 and a Walmart gift card with $2.79 on it.  It’s not a lot but hey, it’s something!

124 Things!

(Pics are below)

I have 3 big bags ready to go to the donation place.  I just can’t believe how little of an effect this has made.  I still don’t have the latest count because I’ve been working on it so late every night but I think it has to be over 800 by now.

As I wrote that, a beautiful thought went through my head – that’s 800 things that I will never have to pick up again.  800 less things to find homes for in my house.  Wow, that’s a lot less to take care of.  Maybe once the next 800 is gone, you’ll be able to see a difference in my house.  The way my living room looks right now, all 800 might come from that one room. I think I’ll be able to find another 800 on the front porch.

Time for the pics:

decluttering challenge

I keep thinking that I’m almost done in the storage room so I went to check it out today.  There’s a few more buckets in the corner but then I noticed that there’s a bunch of other smaller boxes tucked in all over the place.  I’m close to being done in there but further away than I thought.  The living room is full.  This is going to take at least another week.  I’ll keep plugging away at it.

Day 17 of the 21 Decluttering Challenge

I got a lot more done today than I was planning on.  I’m happy about that.  There’s not much left in the storage room so my goal of finishing up that room by day 21 should work out.  I hope so because I’m ready to move on to the next area.

59 things!!

Not too bad for a Wednesday evening!! I’m out of space in here and there’s 4 days left in the challenge.  I’m not sure what I’m going to do about that yet.  I don’t have a grand total right now either.  I’ll try and add it to my post tomorrow.

The Jeans Need to Go Too

I’ve been holding onto all those jeans that are brand new.  I’ve tried selling them online numerous times with no success.  Most of them are really nice brand new jeans.  I don’t get it.  I can never find deals myself but when I offer them, no one grabs them.  Like the Banana Republic jeans, I look on eBay and most of them are really expensive.  I list mine for like $8.00 and can’t sell them.  I know I’m not a salesperson but it gets frustrating.  If I give them away, I won’t be frustrated by it anymore.
