Lots of things. At least the weather was nice so I was able to go through this all outside.
SOCKS!!! Just when I start thinking that I’m never going to get past all the papers, out pops more socks! There’s definitely too many socks! It’s like a bad dream. Everywhere I turn there’s more. And I’m not sure which is more boring: the socks or the papers.
I asked my son if he wanted some of the black ones because occasionally he needs to dress up. He said yes and then promptly set them down next to himself on the couch. When he left, he didn’t take them. So guess where they are. They are in the garbage with the rest of these.
Since my days have been crazy lately, I’ve decided to declutter the front porch in multiples of threes. Some days I have more time than others and some days I’m able to emotionally get rid of more things. So, this solves both of those problems. I will declutter as much as I can as long as I do it in multiples of three.
Yesterday, I got rid of 27 pieces of mail.
Today I got rid of 18 more things..
The 18 things consisted of a box, a little tub, bubble wrap, a half drank bottle of water, a dirty rag, 2 bags and 11 more pieces of mail. All 45 of these things are in the trash cans waiting to be picked up tomorrow morning!
I’m up to a total of 48 things that I’ve gotten rid of but you can’t tell that I’ve done anything yet. Maybe by tomorrow night there will be a difference, Don’t worry. I do have some before pics! They’re just too embarrassing to post right now! Once I get more done I will post them.
I made sure to get a little done today and I have before and after pics to prove it. The place that I’ve been wanting to work on is the upstairs hallway. I don’t go up there very often so I tend to procrastinate on it. Today I finally worked on it. The same ugly 50 year old carpet that was in my living room is in the hallway so there’s only so much that I can do. No matter how clean it is, it will still look bad but at least the kids will be able to walk through. I should look around and see if I can find something decorative to put on that cabinet but for now, I’m going to leave it cleared off.
Here’s the After Picture:
The Before Picture:
The picture below is what it looked like when I started. There was a lot of junk that I had thrown out there when I was switching rooms around. There’s a big bag of garbage that hadn’t made it’s way downstairs yet. I know that it looks really bad but it took me less than an hour to get it all cleaned up and vacuumed. That’s phenomenal because it used to take me hours to clean up that hallway and now it’s done in a flash! That’s what happens when you get rid of lots of stuff!! It’s not overwhelming anymore! I knew it wouldn’t take me long once I got started and I was right.
The other half of the hallway:
This is the top of the stairway. I’ve been wanting to move that cabinet into the new storage room and I finally did that today too. The litter box was next to the cabinet. Once the cabinet was gone, I moved the litter box over so now there’s more room to get past it. All the cat supplies are nicely in the corner now. It’s so nice to have this all done and it was all done before 1:00 p.m.
Since there was still enough of the day left after I finished, we were able to spend some time out by the horses. It was a very nice day with plenty of sunshine.
I am so happy! The free table was over half empty when I went out to clean it up this evening. I don’t know why I’m always surprised but I am. Hey, do you see them? The Lucky Brand jeans? Nope! Someone finally took them! Yay! I still have that dictionary which is a bummer but look at how much other stuff is gone.
In case you didn’t see the post from when I set it up this morning, here’s the picture I took:
I even put a few more things out there during the day and they were all taken. It was slower today than last week but those almost empty tables make me smile. I think that last week there was a rummage sale down the street and that might have helped it go faster. I still have a feeling that my neighbors think I’m crazy for doing this but I don’t care too much. I really think that we all need to help our own communities a little bit more so if I help even a few people, it’s worth it.
The best part is… I don’t even remember some of the stuff that I put out there so I won’t even miss it! I have to keep looking back at the before picture to see what’s gone.
I wish that I would have thought of this at the beginning of summer instead of right before winter. I could have been doing it for months! I’ll have to come up with a new way to get rid of things once it gets too cold.
