I don’t think cutting the lawn is the worst job in the world. Â I kind of like it. Â The hot sun makes it challenging once in awhile but that’s not the reason that I procrastinate. Â It’s the left over pieces of plywood and random bricks left around the yard that makes me dread this chore. Â If I could go outside and cut the grass without having to clean up the entire yard first, it would be 100 times easier.
Random Plywood
When the boys in the family finish a project, they leave the leftover plywood laying around. Â They do it because they don’t know how to get rid of it. Â Apparently if they leave it there, the magic fairies (aka MOM) come clean it up.
Bricks
When we bought our house, the previous owners left some bricks. Â I’ve gotten rid of a few throughout the years but these suckers appear only when I cut the grass. Â It’s as if they move around the yard, finding the tallest grass to hide under. Â Then I come along with the lawnmower and they jump right in front of it. Â By the time the sparks stop flying, I’m done for the day.
Broken Branches
If there was a contest in my city of who has the most branches in their yard, I would win hands down. Â I don’t even have that many trees so I don’t know where they’re coming from. Â A little bit of wind and there’s a thousand more.
Treehouses
Someone gave us a treehouse that goes on the top of a playset about 15 years ago. Â Of course, I had lots of cool plans for this thing but none of them ever materialized. Â Not sure how to get rid of it. Â Once I figure it out though, it would clear up a 6′ by 6′ space in my yard.
Car Bed
Doesn’t everyone have a car bed in their backyard? Â It’s one of those really cool Little Tykes car beds. Â We decided it was too big for the kids’ bedrooms so we put it in back with the intent of transforming it into a really cool sandbox. Â Instead, it was filled with the extra plywood, noted above, that no one knew what to do with. Â Now I don’t know what to do with the bed or the plywood.
Once I figure out what to do with all this stuff, yard clean up will be a breeze!
pay the kiddos a small amount for each brick they find and bring to you. Have a weird contest with them and see how many they can find in a very limited amount of time.
Do you think I could just throw them in the garbage can? Just not sure how to get rid of bricks! LOL!!
I would say yes but it might depend on how many you find. Maybe another project using then.
It’s the same here Jen, $10 just for a start, if you have any electronics etc, you have to pay them an arm and a leg to dispose of it.
Do you have bulk pick up trash day?? We just pile stuff like that by the road, and they come get it. Huge pieces of sectionals, beds, rickety desk… Advertise on freecycle?? Someone’s probably looking for all those things!!
We used to but not anymore. Now you have to pay $10 to go to the city dump.
