Day Seven But Not Quite Finished Yet

After finishing up with day seven, things are almost looking great. The front porch looks fabulous but unfortunately, my living room doesn’t.

Can you see where I’m going with this?

I still have three bins and two boxes in the living room that need to be finished. The problem is that I love the way the porch looks right now and I don’t want to put anything back out there. So I’m frozen in indecision.

It feels so good to take things to Goodwill which has really helped a lot. Something about getting it out of the house makes such a huge difference.

A couple reasons really stand out:

  • It’s final. There’s no chance of it coming back into the house.
  • Small wins. I did it! I let 27 things go today!
  • The open space it leaves is wonderful for creativity.
  • Having a little room to bring something in the front door is a huge convenience.
  • Simply, everything looks nicer

Sometime this week, I’m going to have to put things back out there. I’m still going to try to get rid of more before I do that. It’s been so nice to be able to set my ladder up when I need to find a box or a sold item on the top shelf and not have to fight for enough room for it to open. It’s nice to be able to pull the bins out without having to move 10 different things first.

Did I fail by not having everything done by Day Seven?

I don’t think so. It got me moving and now I want to do more. I can’t wait to do more! While I can’t just get rid of everything without looking at it and deciding if I want to sell it or not, I can make decisions faster now.

Having selling criteria set up really helped too. Will it sell in the next 4-6 months? Can I sell it for more than $5.99? Can it fit in a box? Do I have a box that size?

I take all of these things into consideration before deciding whether or not the thing can take up space on my porch. Yes, it’s sort of a slow process but it works out okay.
