Ok, there is something in this pile that I’m really happy to get rid of. Why? Because it brings back some embarrassing memories!!! If I throw it away, I won’t have to remember what a fool I made of myself. It really wasn’t that bad but I still think about it once in awhile.
The Party Invitation
It’s the party invitation. My son was invited to a birthday party when he was 7 years old. It was the first party that the twins weren’t both invited to but he went anyways. Nothing wrong with that. The trouble all started when I went to pick him up. I had my daughter with me and these people had a big swimming pool. It was beautiful. I’m not a swimmer so I don’t know what my problem was that day but I didn’t want to leave. We were sitting on the deck around the pool, it was a beautiful day and these people were so nice.
My daughter ended up in the pool with the other kids, in her clothes because she didn’t have a swimming suit, and she was having so much fun. I was enjoying it so much there that I didn’t really realize that everyone else had left. At first, the dad kept saying, oh it’s okay, you can hang out. So, I thought, ok great because I don’t want to leave anyways. But then the mom started getting mad and finally she was like, we have to go now. We need to start making dinner. So, I finally took the unsubtle hint, packed up the kids, and left.
I was mesmerized by that swimming pool glistening in the beautiful sunshine. It’s embarrassing thinking back on that day so I’m glad to see that invitation go. I don’t even know why I still have it after 10 years.
Isn’t it weird the memories that are conjured up by a single piece of paper??
Hahaha! Yes! I think that’s why it takes so long to go through them all.
because we forget I guess. i have many items like this that I kept because i liked what they reminded me, or because I forgot that I have had them. each time I declutter my place, I find items in both categories, but mostly in the second one. when the times comes, they go. So it was this invitation’s day to go today..
That’s a good way to think about it!!
