I worked on the front porch today. Â Even though I got more done than I was planning, it still wasn’t much. Â I don’t want to add a picture yet because it’s still so bad. Â You can’t really tell that I did much. Â It just looks like a big hoarder mess out there. Â I put a few things in the car to take to a donation place tomorrow and I crammed some of it into the garage. Â I didn’t really have to cram it because we took the time to clean out the garage this summer. Â There’s still too much in there but at least I could fit a few more things in.
And, I can add to my count! I’m getting rid of:
- Pair of shoes
- 2 woodworking magazines
- Toaster oven
- Light up ball
- 2 random toys
- 1 big box
- A big garbage bag full of shipping popcorn.
- 8 pieces of junk mail
- Dress
- Phone
- 41 more pieces of junk mail
That’s 60 more things for a….
Grand Total of 1,405 things that I’ve gotten rid of!
(I had to update already because I went back on the porch and did a little more tonight!)
I’m hoping to finish the side I’ve been working on by the end of the week. Â Maybe I’ll find a lot more to get rid of so I can add to my count.
My whole family seems to be catching the declutter bug. Â Realizing the difference between keeping something because we love it or use it and keeping it because we think someone else wants us to keep it is getting easier. And guess what? Â My mom is finally getting the message that I even get rid of things that she gives me. Â She keeps saying, “I’m not giving you this if it’s going to end up on the free table.” Â It kind of makes me laugh because I kept telling her not to send stuff over here but she kept doing it anyways. Â Then she saw a lot of it on the last free table I did.

Congratulations. I think when you start decluttering, there’s a tipping point where getting rid of stuff *feels better* than getting stuff. I get just about the same thrill if not more when something goes OUT.
Thanks! I do feel great when I get rid of things now although somedays it’s still hard to let certain things go.
Hello there, just snatching some online time while my sister gets my dad his breakfast. Am ensconced in my old childhood bedroom while ma is in having her hip op. Looking after my dad so not online much. Well done for tackling the porch – and even weller done (😊) for throwing out stuff your mum has added to your hoard. We have just completed a marathon clear-out of my dad’s workshop which was 62 years old and falling apart. We filled a builder’s skip to the top! (Not sure what you call them, – dumpster maybe?) Anyhow – am with you and Melinda in spirit as you continue your purges. Will get to your posts whenever I can.
Hi Gilly! I hope your parents are both doing good! It’s great to hear from you. 62 years of stuff can really add up! Yep, we call them dumpsters. My mom kept telling me to rent one and empty out my house but that’s just not something I’m willing to do!
1,363 is a staggering large number, Jen!! Kudos to you!! You cleaned out the garage this summer? Woo hoo!!
Ahead of the game there!
