Hello!

This is my first post and I’d like to explain a little bit.  I picked this name because when you’re a hoarder, you just don’t want anybody to know.  You live an almost hidden existence.  People can’t come over to visit.  The kids can’t have friends over to play.  You pray every day that nothing breaks in the house so that you don’t have to call service people to come over to fix anything.  As you can imagine, once something does break, things spiral out of control from there and trying to get out of it is too overwhelming.  So stick around and let’s get ‘er done!  You CAN dig out.  You can find relief and have friends and family over again.

    • It’s so mentally draining isn’t it?? I think ughhhh a lot! LOL! When I get stuck, I try to think about who the first people I’m going to invite over are going to be and what kind of snacks I’m going to serve them. Good luck with the digging out!

      • I didn’t have family or anyone over for over a year and last month I finally broke down to my T and a family who helped us clean up enough that I can let some people in now. It is overwhelming beyond belief and just sort of hit us out of nowhere (well not really nowhere!)

        • It’s been a couple years for us. I finally let my teenagers have their closest friends over a few times this summer and hopefully pretty soon they’ll be able to have them over a lot more! I don’t know how the stuff piles up so fast but I have to get it out of here..lol!!

          • My gma died about 5 years ago and I got her stuff and then my mom had a stroke 3 years ago and I got all of her stuff and my hubby’s dad died last year (we got his stuff) and my dad died a few months later (didn’t get his stuff). I broke down sometime in between all that and just stopped doing anything and then my hubby got cancer and everyone stopped doing everything and we have a large house filled with stuff and 3 garages all filled with stuff and our barn is bigger than our house filled with stuff. And I had 12 cats inside and they ruined so much (I’m down to 5 now–we live on a farm) and I think you get the picture. But thank you SO much, it helps to know I’m not alone because even though I isolated, I dislike being alone. And this stuff is so isolating. We had a 20 foot box truck haul things out. We’ve burned a ton, goodwill and habitat for humanity know us by name…and I’m simply exhausted.

            • Wow!! You’ve been through a lot and that’s a lot of stuff to bring into your life! I’m sure there’s a lifetime of memories attached to all of it and that’s the hardest to deal with.. for me anyways! When I started cleaning up, I realized that everything had just stopped here too. I kept finding organized things buried that were all dated 2006 and then it hit me that that’s when the house just fell apart. I think it’s awesome that you live on a farm. I was reading some of your posts and thought I saw something about horses. How many do you have? I have a horse and a mini horse 🙂 And I totally get the cat thing! LOL! We’ve had 2 cats for years and I managed to say no to all the new kittens at the barn but someone stopped over with one the other day and I couldn’t resist! So now we have 3 but no more are allowed in!! They’re just so darn cute! You’re definitely not alone. I took 2 trailers full of stuff to Goodwill on a really hot day a few weeks ago and the workers did not look happy that I was bringing so much stuff! LOL!! I even wanted to hide there just because I was dropping off so much. But it sure felt good to get rid of it all!!

              • We have two horses and a hinny. Supposedly hinny’s are “rare” LoL but he was on a therapeutic riding farm and not so therapeutic so we saved him. He is part stallion and part donkey. We also have a llama and a goat and peacocks and German Shepards and when you aren’t doing anything it is hard to handle. But the farrier is coming tomorrow and it’s all good and maybe I’ll ride again someday or maybe I won’t. But the good news is that the barn is getting cleaned up or cleared out. Theoretically it’s an indoor riding arena. If you’re collector of stuff it is a nightmare. And my Goodwill adventures are hysterical. My 13 year old would tell me to get in the car and drive off before they saw the crap we donated. Oh my gosh, whatever…they can just toss it right. We don’t have trash pick up where we live and either burn it or recycle it. So goodwill is often my last resort or only option for non burnable items that don’t fit into a recycle category.

                • LOL!!!! I do the same thing, drop things and try to get out of there as fast as I can!! Our city used to have a regular garbage pick up and I could put as much stuff out on the curb as I wanted. It was fantastic. A few months ago, they changed it and now we can only fill up this one garbage can that they gave us. It’s horrible. Sometimes I have bags that sit here for a few weeks before I can fit them in. Thankfully, one of my neighbors lets me put stuff in theirs because they only fill it about half way. Your farm sounds like a neat place. I love German Shepards. I had one for a short time years ago and she was a great dog. Due to family members with allergies, I can’t have a dog now but it’s probably better with the disaster in the house anyways.
