Live With It and New Normals

Those two things make me cringe every time I hear them! I don’t want to live with it like a roommate and it’s not a new normal. There’s nothing normal about it. Well, there is. Nature does this to us every so many years. I’m not sure how many but I know we’ve been getting warned every year for about the last ten years that it’s been coming and we’re due for it. But really, it’s not normal.

Normal is going to work every day like the day before. The same people are there. The know-it-all, the joker, the nerd and the anxious new mom come in and start each day the same way. We laugh at the jokester and soothe the anxious new mom while the nerd pulls out the pie chart of things that the know-it-all knows this week and gets it updated for the rest of us. That’s normal.

By saying “the new normal” it’s like we’ve given in to wearing masks and it’s something that we’re going to have to do for the rest of our lives. I believe that one way or another we’re going to eradicate this monster and normal will really be normal again. Not a “new” normal but actually normal. That term just really strikes a bad cord with me.

Oh well, until then, I guess we’ll just have to live with it. (That’s just another way to say that we’re giving in to the virus. And no, it’s still not normal!)
