I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since all the lockdowns began. At this time last year, I was really sick. It had started in early March and would be two months before I actually started feeling a little bit normal again.
If we hadn’t started working from home, I would’ve had to take time off because walking the 10 feet from my couch to my computer took all of my energy. I got done what I could, the best that I could.
By summertime though, I was ready to get things done!
We renovated both of our bathrooms
One of my kiddos had gotten bored during the springtime and started talking about renovating our upstairs bathroom. I was all in for that one! We finished it by early summer.
A few months later, we did the downstairs bathroom. It’s been great and has made being home a little bit nicer.. ok, a lot nicer!
I planted a garden
Ever since I was a kid, I loved having a garden. With how busy we’ve been the last decade, it’s been a while since my last garden. Being at home more this past year made it possible.
I usually only grow a few things. Tomatoes and cucumbers are my favorite.
Last summer, I planted tomatoes, zucchinis, and red peppers. It was a very small garden and started out looking great. But as the weeks went on, things took a turn for the worst and I ended up with only a few things.
I managed to get about 10 tomatoes. They were the most delicious tomatoes I’ve had in a very long time and I was bummed that the plants had started wilting shortly after budding.
One beautiful red pepper made it to fruitation. That’s it. Just one but it was wonderful.
Lots of buds on the zucchini plant but I only got two. They were delicious but sad that there weren’t more.
Helped a hoarder friend get her furnace fixed
This was really my first time in a Level 4/5 hoarder house. This house is filled. I’m sure that the furnace repair people who told her that they needed five feet all the way around the furnace never thought she’d actually get it done.
However, it turns out that all I did was create more space for her to do more shopping once the furnace was fixed. We may have made more progress if summer hadn’t come to an end but the winters are long here and what better way to spend your time than shopping?
Yes, getting rid of things would’ve been better but she’s just not there yet. She’s back to spending an hour and a half every day to walk 30 feet from her bed to her back door so she can leave to do more shopping.
Sold a lot of things on eBay
This is one of those productive things that I really enjoy doing. I’ve probably been talking about it a little too much lately but I love doing it.
Over the years, I’ve picked up a lot of things because “they’re going to be worth something.” I really believed that about a lot of things until one day, I decided to buy a Fisher Price toy. You know, the early 70’s ones that you always hear are worth a lot.
On eBay, I found a *complete hospital set with all the original furnishings and little people. Do you know how much I paid for it?
Fifty dollars. That’s it. (Hmmm… maybe I got a good deal?)
And then it dawned on me that keeping this big-ish toy for almost 50 years, only made it worth $50.00. That is a lot of money but I’m pretty sure that all the space it took up for 50 years was worth more than $50.00.
Paid off all of my credit cards
This one wouldn’t have been possible during the past year without eBay. I guess you could say this is what started the whole eBay thing.
The interest I was paying on one of my cards was close to $30 a month. That’s money that I’m basically giving away for nothing. So I decided that I had to at least pay off my smallest card so that it would free up a little more money to pay on the bigger one.
That was the whole plan – pay off the smallest card.
It worked.
I was able to pay off that small one but it happened quicker than I thought. So, I decided to work on the next one. Boom! That was paid off too. Now I was down to the last two which were both much larger. I thought that if I could get at least one of those paid off, it would be great. Well, they’re all paid off now and I’m very happy about that!
It’s been a productive year and I hope that you can say the same!

What a great set of accomplishments!
Jen!! That is amazing!! All credit cards paid off is such a wonderful feeling! I did all 4 of mine 2 years ago. 90 minutes just to get out the door?? That poor lady sounds like she is a disaster waiting to happen. So sorry all your hard work didn’t have more effect. But, at least she has heat now. That’s the conclusion I came to, long ago. It’s not worth money to hold onto! Nothing I had was ever gonna make any real money! So donating is so much better for me. Ebay is just too much work to me.
Congrats to you too for paying yours off too!! All that interest is such a waste of money!! I know that lady really appreciated being able to get to her bedroom after we cleared her hallway but she just can’t let anything go and there’s no place left for her to put anything. She keeps hinting that she’d like more help but we’ll see.
Bravo! You have done a lot of worthwhile things!
