Just not for me. I’m not doing anything at all but working my normal 9-5 job. At least I’m working at home for now! The bathroom has been on standstill for a few weeks but hopefully not for long. I have a few days off this week and that’s Number One on the list!
A few other things on the list include.. um, nothing really. I need to take some days off or I’m going to lose PTO (Paid Time Off) and no one likes to lose vacation time! It’s been rapidly accumulating because all of my spring and summer events were cancelled this year due to the pandemic.
Speaking of that, how’s everyone doing? Have you or someone you know gotten it? I’m even more terrified of getting it now than I was before. A few months ago when it was a big deal, there were hardly any cases here. Then they ruled the safer at home order unconstitutional and there wasn’t a precaution in sight. There still isn’t and there’s a ton of new cases everyday. It’s pretty scary.
Over Father’s Day weekend, the whole family got together for a couple days because my son and his family came to visit for a few days. We were all together and I’ve been counting down the days since they left. It’s 14 days today. Last week, I kept thinking, just a few more days and I should be okay.
The Clinic
Well, on Friday, my mom put a stick through her eye and I had to take her to urgent care. Stupid me thought that urgent care would be a little less germy than going to an ER but I think I was wrong and now I have 11 more days to worry and this is a much bigger worry.
They made us take off our industrial N95 masks and put on some really flimsy, cheap crappy surgical mask that didn’t even feel like it was doing anything at all. It was like a piece of Kleenex over our mouths. They made us stand at the desk for at least 15 minutes, asking us stupid questions. Then they said, “Don’t sit in the seats right behind you in this section. Go either to the left or the right because this is where we have the covid patients sit.” I AM NOT JOKING. Wait, I have to repeat that because it was the most unbelievable thing I’ve heard in a very long time…. I AM NOT JOKING.
Seriously, if I never post again, you’ll know why. And then don’t go to a clinic unless it’s an absolute emergency. A bleeding eye ball seemed like an emergency at the time but in hindsight, she should’ve waited it out. They didn’t do anything but give her antibiotic drops anyways, after we were in that place for 2 HOURS.
I’ve heard lots of times that it is airborne but if you aren’t standing for a long time, like when you’re moving through a grocery store, you should be okay. It’s the prolonged exposure that’s the problem. So no one at that clinic thinks there’s anything wrong making every person stand in the same spot for 15-20 minutes while asking them 500 pointless questions is a problem? I was so angry.
We used the hand sanitizer every time we walked past one, which they had all over, but that standing in the same spot was horrifying. Then they put us in a little tiny room. I’m sure there were no germs in there. It sounded like they put everyone in one of their three micro rooms. I’m so glad this place isn’t in my health plan.
I used a wheelchair to get my mom through the clinic faster. They said they clean them but when we got back to the front door to drop it off on the way out, no one even made a move towards it to clean it. Did they even clean it before giving it to us? I’m very worried for both of us.
I hope everyone is doing well and had a great weekend!
Wow!! How did a stick in Mom’s eye? Sounds aawful! Today is the 15th, so only 2 more days to go?? Yeah, hospitals are the worst germy places in the world! ugh!
She went to pick up a pile of branches and was distracted and one went right in her eye. I think she was pretty traumatized because she had to pull it out. I think that was the worst part for her… and of course the bleeding. Thank goodness it’s only 2 more days now!!
sounds horrifying hope your mom is feeling better, you will never end up in that stupid place again, and you will continue to post for a very, very, very long time. Hang in there
Thank you!! She is feeling much better 😊. I’m going to be praying that you’re right! 11 more days…. it seems like forever. I know someone else could bring it home or I could get it from who knows where but that prolonged exposure was just so ridiculous.
