What are we doing?

I keep saying that I’m not going to say anything about covid-19 and I’m going to get back to what I’m doing in this house but I can’t help it! Just one more here.

The strangest thing to me during this pandemic situation is the confusing information we’re being given on a daily basis. It’s like asking someone if a car is blue or yellow and getting a reply of “airplane”. None of it makes any sense at all.

The “news” has gone completely bizerk. Their leading questions make them sound like they’re not even in the same conversation as the person they’re interviewing.

Here’s a few examples:

The leader of a major university was saying that they’re hoping they’ll be able to open in the fall with some changes but they can’t guarantee that no one at the university will get sick because they don’t know.

The next question by the reporter: How can you guarantee that everyone will be safe from the virus?

He simply said, “We can’t.”

Was she even listening to his statement at all?

It was so strange.

The next one had to do with pets. The animal expert said that people can give the virus to their pets and went on about the care of the pet if they get it and how people should be social distancing from their pets if they’re sick.

The next thing the reporter said: Ok great! Good to know that we can’t give it to our pets.

WHAT?!?!?! I couldn’t even make this up.

WHY?

The next big crazy thing is how we’re told in one breath that our cases are the highest they’ve been since this began. Then in the next breath, they talk about all the places that are opening up and how our state continues to fight the stay at home order because no one is following it anyways.

Companies are told to social distance but then they hold orientations with people sitting shoulder to shoulder. Meat packaging plants are giving their employees bonuses if they come to work sick. And then you have all the people who wonder why we’re closing everything up because it’s just like the flu… IT’S NOT JUST LIKE THE FLU!! It’s nothing like the flu.

One more news story that baffled me. It was about dreams. People are dreaming more now. So we had to have a study to tell us it’s because people are actually getting more sleep now so they’re having more dreams. The next thing said, “Here are some ideas to get them to stop.” It’s a natural function of the brain. We’re sleeping enough. If you want them to stop, go back to your craziness and then they’ll stop again.

Honestly, it’s maddening.

  • Yup, news will keep you stressed out!! That’s one reason we don’t own a TV! Daughter had one for girls, but no broadcast TV. I loved when it was gone!
I think no one in the press briefings are really listening to anything. Just trying to say something to hear their own voice!

  • I’ve noticed the same thing, especially from leadership. Public health official says one things, leader supports it, and then does just the opposite.

I’m not talking about just the President or Vice President here, who are guilty of this. At our local level, the county public health doctor ordered mandatory masks while in public. Now the county supervisors want to rescind the order to WHILE WEARING MASKS at the the meeting where they were also observing the 6 feet distancing, one of which said masks are ineffective.

  • I totally agree Jen! Same here in the UK. It almost feels as if a really cruel entity is messing with everyone’s heads deliberately. Anyone who dares to use their critical thinking skills to approach some of the anomalies in a rational way is shot down in flames by those who never question what they are told. At least in the USA people are challenging it all. I don’t see much of that going on here. You sound as stressed as I feel. Every morning I have to use deep slow breathing to get my heart rate down. I NEVER had a continual stress reaction running in the backgroud ALL the time. I’m having to work at keeping it at bay because I know that ultimately, my immune system will get low if I don’t. Hope you are ok.

    • Yes! I’ve heard that a few times now.. stress will lower your immunity. So lots of deep breathing and turning off the ridiculous news!! That makes me feel better almost immediately lol!
