Will I Ever Get A Chance to Continue On?

There hasn’t been a single minute to do any decluttering in days!  Between work and kid activities, I feel like I haven’t been home in a week with no end to it in sight.  We have gotten to the barn a couple times, which is great, but other things have been neglected, like my front porch.  It is still the one area of my house that makes me cringe!! Every day, I try not to look as I go in the house.

The good news is, I’ve snuck in a few minutes to work on the living room.  It’s looking pretty good!  The desk isn’t done yet but it’s getting there.  I’ve painted the legs with yellow stain (they’re beautiful!) and I’m just waiting for the top to be done so I can stain it with a rich golden pecan stain. I bought a laptop mount online from Houzz.com that should be delivered any day now.  (It came today! Yay!) I can’t wait to see it all set up!  I still need a chair but that costs a little more money so I’ll have to save up.

Continue on with the extra furniture…

deskFor some reason, I still have way too much furniture in my living room and now I’m adding this desk.  A few things need to go but I don’t know what I’m doing with all the  extras.  I have an antique desk that I really like but all it does is hold stuff.  It’s too small to use as an actual desk.  Then I have a bigger more modern desk that I think we’re keeping but I need to see if I can remove the keyboard tray.  It’s nice but it takes up a lot of room with it on.  If I can’t remove it, then I don’t know if I’m keeping it or not.  It doesn’t have any drawers or storage areas either.

There’s an extra couch in the living room too and 4 big sturdy dining room chairs.  I really like these chairs and we use them when people come over, but I don’t know where to go with them!  They are so sturdy that I hate to just get rid of them.

A tall laundry hamper, small cabinet, a fold down dining room table, an extra full size couch and 2 more office chairs are also in the room.  Having all this extra furniture in the living room leaves only a small amount of space to actually move.  It’s not a big room at all!  There isn’t room anywhere in the rest of the house for any of it which is what’s causing my dilemma.  I was thinking that I might be able to use the small cabinet on the front porch for some of the horse things. Unfortunately, I can’t put it out there yet because there isn’t an inch of room for it right now.

How do you get rid of useful furniture?

I will keep one of the office chairs to use with the new desk until I can get the new chair.  The other chair is in fairly good shape so I hate to get rid of it but I don’t have room for it.  Maybe I will try to sell it for a few bucks.  Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get rid of extra furniture without too much emotional damage? Money helps a lot but it’s still hard to let of something so useful.

    • That’s a good idea. I was thinking of asking my friend that gave it to me if she wanted it back first. She’s home more and has more time for selling.

  • I like to use Freecycle to give away unwanted furniture; I’m currently trying to get rid of some things for my neighbour since they have moved away. I think the act of giving something away to a new home, or for someone else to lovingly restore is a nice feeling, even if you originally paid for something and need to give it away then you can just appreciate that you got your monies’ worth out of it.

    • I love giving stuff away but I have a hard time giving away furniture for some reason. I can’t keep it all though so I have to get over that!

  • Before I read this at all, I just gotta say, “YES!! You will!”
    Then see, you did! lol
That pic of the desk is gorgeous!! Wow, girl, you DO have too much furniture in there!!
My Mama hung a chair on the wall, as a shelf! Maybe you can do that??
Do you have Freecycle.org there? It helps my feelings so much, if I know its going to someone who really needs it!!

    Keep us in the loop!

    • That’s a really cute idea about the chairs but these are really big chairs so it wouldn’t work with them. They would rip my wall down.. LOL! We do have Freecycle but not many people go on it anymore. I think the desk is gorgeous too so I wish I had some place to keep it!

  • I have the same problem with letting go off nice and useful things.. selling can somehow make it feel better if it is not too much of a trouble, or re-purposing and using it somewhere else in the house (if possible). best of luck with the decision! 🙂
