Back to the Small Bathroom Remodel Part One

Have you ever wondered how much a small bathroom remodel costs? It’s more than I was imagining. After getting a few quotes of $6,000-$10,000, I still couldn’t imagine paying that much. We have a very small bathroom. What could possibly cost that much when doing a bathroom renovation?

I’m going to break down what I spent so you have some idea where these costs are coming from.

Let me reiterate that this is a very small bathroom. I found that when it comes to bathroom remodels, the bigger the bathroom, the bigger the cost. It seems like an obvious statement but there’s a direct relationship between size and money here. Two inches in the size of your vanity makes a big difference in the cost.

A majority of the expense was in the bathtub. Because the old bathtub was cracked and water was getting all the wood underneath wet, we needed to re-do everything. There was so much damage that I didn’t even take before pictures. I just wanted it out.

Let’s start with the before pictures.

When I look at these before pics, I can’t believe that I didn’t do anything in here sooner. I think I was frozen over the dollar amount of the quotes that I was getting for this remodel. Next time, I will definitely get to it quicker!

This vanity was put in when we first moved in a long time ago. I was very surprised when I was looking for vanities for this bathroom remodel project that this almost exact one is still a staple at all home improvement stores. Although it’s a great size for this small bathroom, I didn’t want this classic look any longer.

I will admit, once I decided that this room was being remodeled, I neglected it on the daily. The floor tiles started falling out, they didn’t match the purple walls and nothing about this room shouted “take care of me please.”

It was hard to get the sink clean anymore. We usually had a few other things on the sink counter like toothbrushes, hair brushes, and hair ties.

The very old looking vent cover, along with the green shower curtain is awful. At one time, the faucet was cute but not anymore! The towel holder under the mirror normally held towels that didn’t match purple or green.

You can’t see it in any of the pictures but there was an industrial toilet paper holder that held two rolls so that we didn’t have to change it as often. We had a very busy household so it was put in for convenience, not aesthetics.

Now that you know where we started from, please see Back to the Small Bathroom Remodel Part Two where I show you the newly upgraded bathroom and how much everything cost.
