Back to the Closet!

There’s so much that I’d like to rant about today but instead, let’s think about the closet! Now that I’ve gotten a little help getting re-started on the decluttering efforts, I headed straight for the downstairs bathroom closet.

It was another spot that was getting to the point of no return. I tackled it in one day! I know, it’s a small closet, hardly worthy of a one day designation but I’m still moving slowly these days.

There’s so much that I’m even going to make a list:

  • 11 towels and rags
  • 5 cans of spray hair color – these were supposed to be for the horse for a costume but they smelled so bad like chemicals that I didn’t even want to spray them on him
  • antibacterial wipes
  • 2 bottles of hair detangler
  • Sinucleanse
  • big bottle of antibacterial soap that has turned a funny color
  • sun screen
  • 3 deodorants
  • 2 tubes of toothpaste
  • cough drops
  • dried up wipes
  • hand soap
  • 4 bars of hotel soap
  • 2 bottles of hotel shampoo
  • 9 packets of aveeno soothing bath oatmeal (must’ve been a box of 10!)
  • 3 pillow cases
  • make up bag
  • 6 make up items in make up bag

Wow!! 55 things! That number makes me feel good 🙂 It gives me hope that I can keep going because this wasn’t hard. At all. But I’m seriously considering doing this same closet again in the next few days because it wasn’t enough. I bet I could get close to another 55 things out of there pretty easily. Maybe I’ll have my son help me on the second-go-round because he’ll for sure find another 55.

For this one, I want to share my thoughts because what would a post be during these crazy times without the mention of the pandemic? As I started going through the closet, I was pretty impressed with myself. I’m actually stocked up and prepared for times like this and I didn’t even realize it. But I thought that maybe it’s stuff that I shouldn’t be getting rid of either.

I was couponing a couple years back and ended up with some really good deals on shampoo and deodorant. So even though I’m getting rid of some of these older, half used ones, I still have at least 4 brand new womens deodorants and 2 mens deodorants. I also have at least 5 more bottles of shampoo and some other soaps. I don’t have a ridiculous amount of either of them but enough so that we can spend that much less time at the store searching for them, at least for the next couple of months.

After I thought about it that way, I decided it was okay to let these things go, even right now. No one needs orange, gold, and yellow hair during a pandemic anyways.

It looked like a lot more when I had it all in a pile with the towels!

  • Congrats on the 55 things gone! Every time I declutter, I also have several items I debate keeping. The oatmeal bath would have been one. Only used when the kiddos had chicken pox BUT what if we need it. It never goes bad. I also have started weighing the cost of replacing items. Oatmeal bath is cheap IF I ever need to get it again. Guess you felt the same way!
