Finding The Problem in the Second Room

Things have come to a screeching halt in my bedroom.

I haven’t been able to sleep in there for a few months because of my allergies but I couldn’t find what was causing it. Nothing too unusual was standing out. There seems to be a lot of dust and some weird spider webs but I wasn’t sure if that was enough to cause the bad reactions I’m having.

After getting rid of all that stuff the last few weeks, it was the same, if not worse. So I sat down on the bed and started looking around. Still so much dust and spider webs. Still lots of stuff to be taken out of the room. And then I saw something else. Behind the mirror. It was the bottom of the sewing machine case from the sewing machine in the corner. But something wasn’t right about it. It was really really dusty. There were dust bunnies all over it. I thought it was strange so I got a bag and put it in. I wiped down the back of the mirror and picked up the dusty things that were on the floor.

Then I saw it……..

Black mold on the wall about a foot or so over from the mirror. It’s the spot where the air conditioner was sitting. The window we used it in was right above that spot. It used to freeze up all the time and then would drip. I always turned it off when that happened and tried to keep a bucket under it. Maybe when it was taken out a few months ago, there was ice in it that melted or maybe it was just dripping a lot more than I realized.

I’m terrified to go in that room now. That’s why I haven’t done anymore. I can only see a little right where the wall hits the floor but I haven’t looked under the carpet yet. I’m way too scared to do that. The professionals might have to be called for this one.

Right now, I have a terrible sinus infection. I can’t help but think that it’s from stirring up all that dust and the mold in that room. But if I hadn’t kept going, I don’t know when I would’ve found it! Once it’s cleaned up, maybe I’ll be able to sleep in there again.

This will only add to my motivation to get through this house once and for all. This is only a bump in the road. I’m still so pleasantly surprised when I go up into the extra room that I finished first. I hope I feel the same way after each and every room.
