It was still early March and I had made up my mind that it was time for us to move and so the big clean up began!
Kind of.
Where to even begin? That was the big question.
Every single inch of that house was being utilized (another word for being filled to the brim with junk.)
Not everyone in the house was quite as convinced as I was that we would find someplace to move to and so it was just me working on it at that point. The memories are overwhelming just thinking about it all.
I decided to start in the one place where things shouldn’t have been in the first place – the hallway.
After picking up 20 new plastic bins, I started what I thought would be a fairly easy task. I thought that I would use maybe two or three of the bins and finish in a short amount of time. Yea, at least five or six bins and three days later, it was finished.
And that was just the hallway.
Since I’ve been having such a hard time getting rid of things, it takes a long time going through a small amount of things. My brain is screaming to get rid of it and my heart says no way! Every decision is monumental.
While I was able to get rid of a lot of things, I still packed too much and there were still so many things to go through.
At this point, my mom decided decluttering sounded like such a good idea that she was going to do it too, and she kept giving me things that I told her I didn’t want. That’s when I realized we had the boundary issues that I talked about in my last post. It just added to the stress!
My BIG CLEAN UP was turning into a BIG FLOP.
Three days in and I was ready to give up.
And then some crazy things started happening that made me try again the next week, only much harder this time!
