Is Life Really Better With a Cleaning Service?

While working on the storage room today, I came across a flyer for a cleaning service that came in the mail probably years ago and it made me laugh out loud. It said “Life’s Better with a HOUSE CLEANING SERVICE!”

I thought, “Heck ya! My life would definitely be better!”

But then again, I’d probably have to do a lot of cleaning before the cleaning service would even come. Maybe that’s what made me laugh.

I opened up the flyer and wow, it does sound pretty wonderful. They detail clean bathrooms, sleeping areas, kitchen & eating areas, and living areas plus one of the rotations where they go even deeper into one of those areas each week.

At first glance, the list looks extensive and I was thinking that it sounds expensive even though it says in the flyer that they’re affordable. Then I actually read what they do.

It’s still a very impressive list and I was still thinking that doing these things would take hours. But when you really look at it, and think about how long it takes to wipe a shower door or clean a toilet, especially after they’ve been done every week, then you realize that it wouldn’t take that long.

They list a lot of dusting – like window sills, ledges, blinds, picture frames, ceiling fans, and knick knacks. Then there’s floors vacuumed or mopped among a few other things. Plus, a few extra things in the kitchen which look like they would take the most time.

Lastly, there’s the rotations each week. It seems like that involves spending a little extra time on each thing. For example, in the bathroom rotation, they scrub the tile grouting and scrub faucets, sinks, and drains with a toothbrush.

Would I mind having a cleaning service? Absolutely not. I’m sure it would be great and free up some time, something that I’m struggling with a lack of.

Do I need a cleaning service? Technically yes. My house is a disaster and a weekly cleaning like this would help but it’s not really an actual necessity.

Can I afford it? The answer is simply no. It’s not in my budget. So, for now, I’ll have to worry about cleaning my own house knowing that doing these few things each week might make a little difference.

Maybe someday I’ll be able to give these people a call but for now it’s just wishful thinking.

Have you ever used a cleaning service? Was it worth it?
