Clothing Clutter Is a Real Thing

Clothing clutter can cause a lot of stress

Yesterday, I was talking about how to go through clothing clutter and today I’m working on it myself. I’m right there with you!

I started with the shorts this morning. There were 30 pairs. Letting go of the first few pairs was really hard. Like pulling teeth hard. Most of the ones I have now actually fit which makes getting rid of them even harder.

But I stuck with it and for every three pairs that I kept, I got rid of at least one. When I finished the first round, I had kept 21 pairs and gotten rid of 9.

It was still too many so I did it again. The second time, I got rid of 3 more pairs. That’s a total of 18 pairs kept and 12 gotten rid of.

If you’re struggling, it helps to go through them multiple times. It gets easier each time. Those jeans that seemed like they fit okay at the beginning, don’t seem to fit as good after you’ve tried on a few really comfortable pairs.

Next, I went through the jeans. I had 28 pairs but got rid of 11. Not too bad! Jeans are a little different because you have different ones for different occassions. You’ve got nice ones, everyday ones, thick ones for winter, thinner ones for summer, bootcut, skinny leg, etc.

Work pants went really good too. I have 15 pairs and I got rid of 6 pairs. See, once you’ve been trying on pants all day, it gets much easier. I didn’t do as good with the pajama bottoms but they’re all so comfy! I only got rid of 3 out of 12.

Wow! That’s 32 pieces of clothing clutter removed today!! It filled up 2 large garbage bags and now I just have to take them to the donation center. I’ll do that in the next day or two before I change my mind on a few items!

I was still curious how many pairs other people have so I found this question posted on Reddit a few years ago. Compared to other people’s comments, I still have way too many. I’m still hovering around 50 between shorts, jeans, work pants and pajama/comfy pants.

Hmmmmm… maybe I need to go through them again!
