Struggling With Clutter Anxiety at the New House

While we were moving in June, I was feeling so much clutter anxiety. The new house seems smaller and I worry constantly that the clutter is going to take over.

But moving was so ridiculously hard that getting rid of things became much easier. We hardly brought any furniture with us and most things still aren’t even in the house.

Everything is getting a good washing before it comes in. Or I bring in one bin at a time and wash everything in it. I’m sure we had a mold problem at the other house and I don’t want one here.

So where is everything?

We have a couple outbuildings and areas here where we put most of our stuff. It’s a little disappointing seeing how much we still have but it’s getting closer to manageable.

The garage has been the most frustrating but I’m working on it now. I actually have a garage that my truck fits in, it’s been -10 degrees all week, and my truck is sitting outside.

We got a second dumpster when we moved here and we filled that one up too.

Getting rid of things is getting so much easier and I’m getting through the clutter anxiety! I’ve been asking myself some tough questions.

  1. Am I really going to use this?
  2. If I am, where am I keeping it?
  3. Am I planning on selling it?
  4. Am I planning on giving it to the babies?
  5. Why did I buy it in the first place?
  6. What’s important to keep?
  7. If I kept something for the kids, do they really want it? Ask them.

I find there’s a lot that I can get rid of if I ask myself these questions.

My Christmas tree is still up but coming down soon. I want to go through the Christmas bins extra carefully before I pack it all up and put it in the basement. A lot of it is already in the donation boxes.

There’s so much to do in 2022!!
