A Tiny Space Can Hold a Huge Amount of Stuff

I can’t even believe this. This week, I started on the 5′ x 5′ area outside my bedroom door. It’s a tiny space. It’s not totally neglected. I usually try to go through this area at least a few times every year. It holds lots of pictures, some of the Fisher Price toys and the old Nintendo games, controllers and systems plus lots more. It’s a nostalgic little area.

Since I go through here quite often, I didn’t think I was going to find much to get rid of. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Not much was safe as I worked my way through each shelf, dusting along the way.

I’m planning on painting in here but I think that I’m going to wait until next weekend. I want to make sure it’s thoroughly decluttered.

  • Yellow ribbon
  • Hair tie
  • Glitter glue
  • Plastic starfish
  • Dog collar
  • Little flashlight
  • Toy gate
  • 4 Legos
  • Toy cookie cutter
  • 7 pens
  • Coupon book
  • 2 door knobs
  • Sticky notes
  • Floppy disk – yep a floppy disk
  • 3 batteries
  • 4 phone clips
  • Baby mitten
  • Piece of fabric
  • Magazine
  • 63 papers
  • 8 CD paper cases
  • 2 packs of seeds
  • Jeep door handle
  • Car phone charger
  • CD – unknown what’s on it
  • Pack of labels
  • 2 screws
  • Old box of checks
  • 6 Partylite tealights

120!! Add that to the 87 from the other day and we’ve gotten rid of 207 from that little area.

The total number of things that we’ve gotten rid of in 2019 so far is 1240. It feels like a lot more but I’ll take it!!

This is where I’m at now… not done yet!
This is where I started. I didn’t think it was awful.

    • There’s a small chance that there might be a computer somewhere in the basement that could read it. Other than that, I don’t think any of mine could’ve read it for the past 15 years or so! Lol!!!

  • Well done – I’m all too aware of spaces like this! So I know what it’s like trying to clear them. Apologies for not being here very much (hardly ever!) now. Have got way more on my plate than I have time to deal with – two loft spaces to clear plus a storage unit with all my dad’s stuff in – about a gazillion books too. Looking after my mum and working. Maybe one day I will have time to read blogs to my heart’s content! Anyway, keep up the good work – it’s worth it when we end up with lovely clear spaces around us.x

    • Hi Gilly! It’s great to see you here even if it’s a quick visit! I understand the time crunch! Hopefully you’ll get a little break soon.

      • Hi Jen – have just mentioned you and Melinda in my latest post (a rare occurrence these days!) It’s not published yet but I have put in links to your’s and Melinda’s websites because my post is about my pathetic decluttering attempts! And you two are the Queens of decluttering! xxx
