Finally We’ve Got Progress!

It’s not what I had planned for the weekend but I’ll take it! We’re working on the bathroom finally. I’ve spent all morning prepping the bathroom. Here’s what I’ve got done so far:

The Roast is In the Crockpot

The last thing that I want to do after spending all day working in the 150% humidity is think about dinner. A roast can cook all day long and it doesn’t matter when I finish tonight, it’ll be ready and I can dig in! I put lots of veggies in with it so it’ll be a nice hearty meal when I’m done.

Start by removing everything from the room

First, I emptied out the vanity. I found a few bathtub toys from the ’90’s and some really old cleaners. Lots of little hair things too such as barrettes and hair ties. Once that was empty, out it went! First the sink, then the vanity. Now they’re sitting in my front yard. Ugh. Oddly enough, there were at least 10-15 puzzle pieces and some mail underneath it. Strange.

The toilet was taken out next. Holy dust! Wow, I can’t believe how much dust was behind the tank. No wonder my allergies are so bad all the time. I’m not a super cleaner so I have no idea how to keep that from happening again. Something to look into once we’re done.

The floor vent that I’m pretty sure has been in there since the house was built in the 1950’s was taken out next. It was ridiculously full of well, everything – cat hair, dust, crumbs, people hair, little toys, cat treats and lots of bobby pins. I love vintage stuff but it went right into the garbage. As we were pulling it out, it actually took some floor up which is why I’m pretty sure it’s never been removed prior to today.

Next, I kind of thought I was done but nope. Three towel racks and a toilet paper holder were next. It’s funny how you don’t really see those things. They’re just part of the wall. All of these things will be getting replaced, especially the toilet paper holder. It’s an industrial one that holds two rolls of toilet paper. When the kids were little, it felt like we were constantly replacing rolls so we went with industrial sized.

The Walls

The last thing is the walls. They’re very dirty. I’ve been cleaning them for over an hour now. That’s another thing that I’ve never done on a regular basis and I’m not even sure of the best way to go about it. It’s much easier to do now with everything out of the room.

The new light sconces were already hangin up because the contractors broke the old ones when they were doing the tub. Those are coming down now and then the room will be ready for the next step!

Painting!

Painting is always my favorite part. It makes everything look so fresh and new. I can’t wait to see how the new color looks with everything else. The first coat took a long time but it always does. The next few coats should go a lot faster. My body isn’t used to all this work so I’m a little worried about how I’m going to feel tomorrow! Sore!

Flooring

I’m not sure if we’re going to get to the flooring tonight. It might have to wait until tomorrow depending on how the rest of the painting goes. I have paint everywhere that’s going to need cleaning up too. Thank goodness the floor is getting replaced! At least I don’t have to worry about that.

Normally, if I was only painting or doing one thing, I would take much better precautions like taping around the ceiling and fixtures but everything is coming out so I’m not too worried about that this time.

It won’t be long now. I can’t wait to post the before and after pics!
