Now It Was Time To Find A Buyer

The realtor set up a table for buyers with the listing information

When we bought our old house, it had been on the market for a long time. The previous owners had already been living many states away for months. So we offered much less than asking price and got it. Now it was our turn to find a buyer for that hard to sell house.

The market was crazy and now that we had done so much during the last few weeks, the realtor was again hopeful that things would go smoothly. Every other house he was listing would go up on Thursday with showings Friday, Saturday and Sunday and then they would review offers on Sunday evening or Monday.

As buyers, that’s the same thing that we had experienced while looking. Most of the houses already had accepted offers by Friday night or early Saturday morning. It was frustrating on both sides.

Again and again, I reminded the realtor there were a few things that our house had going against it and it wouldn’t be as easy to sell as he thought. But he remained confident that he could get it sold, on time, and for enough money.

I wasn’t nearly as confident as he was.

The plan was to have as much out as possible by Tuesday, April 20th. On Wednesday, April 21st, the photographer would come take pictures but first we would have to get all the cats to my daughter’s house. They would need to stay there until after the weekend. Our house would be listed on April 23rd and hopefully we’d have an offer by April 25th and the cats could come home.

The house was looking pretty good at that point. I was emotionally drained and exhausted but it looked like things would be coming together soon. They had to because if we couldn’t sell our house, we wouldn’t be able to get the new one. There was only six weeks left until the closing date.

I bought some flowers for the front of the house and a plant for the porch. The realtor set up a cute little table to welcome the buyers. The camper, old truck and junk trailer were out of the driveway. Cats were at my daughter’s house. Basement stairway was done and looking great.

And the cameras were rolling… literally.

Just when I didn’t think I could take any more of the stress, the showings started and things went from bad to worse.

Would we ever find a buyer in time?

We needed to find a buyer so we worked on curb appeal by adding flowers and cleaning up the yard.

  • so i guess the moral of the story is if we might be selling our house in the next few years, start now. We’ve lived in our place 32 years next month. I think it will take at least 32 months to get it ready.

    • Yes! Yes! Yes! 32 times Yes! Lol!!! I thought I had gotten rid of so much stuff over the last few years but there was so much hiding!! I mean I really did get rid of A LOT but there was still way more that I guess I just kept overlooking. And if I had gotten rid of a lot more, I could’ve spent those few months fixing and updating the house instead of getting rid of things.
