The Front Porch Project is Done for Now

the front porch

A couple of times a year, I work on the front porch project. I’m forever trying to figure out the best way to organize it. Since there’s never enough room in the house, the front porch becomes the next best place to throw things.

But it’s not. The entryway should be welcoming and beautiful, not packed full and blocking the door.

Since I was running out of room for the things I sell on eBay, I decided to start putting them on the porch.

The front porch quickly became an unorganized mess.

I checked out a lot of storage shelves and decided on these metal ones. They fit in the space good and seemed sturdy and well built.

Next came the fun part. Storage bins.

It seemed like it would be fun anyways. Finding just the right ones was a little harder than I thought it was going to be. I wanted them to fill up as much of the shelves as possible so they weren’t wasting any space.

Ever since last summer, when I was working on clearing out people’s houses, I’ve been a little concerned about using plastic bins (more on that some other day!). Anyways, I was hoping to find some that were made of something other than plastic.

I wasn’t having much luck finding an alternative that didn’t cost a million bucks so I started checking out the plastic bins. I knew they would at least be more affordable.

The ones I found were beautiful colors or at least I think so! They have air holes which I thought would be okay so that no moisture gets trapped inside. It also lets the inherit chemical fumes out.

They had small matching cloth bins that were smaller so I grabbed a few of those too. If they would’ve had larger ones, I might have bought them instead of the plastic ones, but they didn’t.

Unfortunately, they didn’t completely fill the shelves but it’s okay. Now I have some room for the bigger things that I can put on the sides or in between the bins. It’s working out okay!

The Other Side of the Front Porch Project

I’m not quite as happy with the other side of the porch. Yes, it’s much better but there’s still too many things out there. Not all of them are to sell either. I keep some of my horse tack out there and an old trunk that was my great great grandpa’s when he came to the U.S. from Ireland many years ago.

I ended up finding a new place for the things on top of the white drawers. A few other things were put away too. It just doesn’t seem like the greatest organization on this side so I’ll have to think about it some more.

That’s it for the front porch! I’ll try to stop myself from putting anymore out there. The only way to do that is to keep decluttering the rest of the house so I don’t have to put it out there in the first place.
