Did We Really Buy A Hoarder House?

The very first time that we saw our new house, there was an estate sale going on. Imagine our surprise when we pulled up at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning and finding every building full of people and stuff.

It sure looked like a hoarder house by the amount of stuff for sale but yet most areas were clean.

By the time of the closing on the house, everything was taken out. There was nothing left in the house, except a few funky smells. Fifty different little air freshener cans sitting around the house will do that.

It was obvious that they were trying to cover up some smells.

We wouldn’t find out what they were from for a few more weeks.

As we started moving boxes in, more little clues popped up that hinted towards a hoarder house.

For one, all of the outlets and light switches were dirty. I’m not talking dirty like surface dirt on the wall, but dirty actually inside the outlets and switches. I wondered if mine had been that bad at the old house. I don’t remember them ever looking like that though.

It also looked like there had been a lot of work done on the basement. It looked great but I felt like too much work had been done to make it look that way;.

The whole house looked good but it still felt like something wasn’t quite right.

I can’t remember if I told this story or not but during one of our visits to the house, we ran into the woman who owned it. I made a comment about her having a lot of stuff at her estate sale and she told me that all that stuff was only the stuff she wanted to get rid of. She still had 2 semi trucks full.

Even I was shocked at that comment!

It was cool stuff though! I was having fun walking through looking at it all.

Here’s just a tiny bit of the sale…
