Is Everything From My House In a Storage Unit?

Yep! I’ll admit it. I’m cheating. Everything is in a storage unit!

I couldn’t take it anymore. It all needed to get out. The whole house was overflowing. It was hard to remember what the house looked like underneath it all and I wanted to see it without all the stuff.

Everyone was getting frustrated. No one could find anything. The floors were quickly disappearing.

And then something happened that I will share later. Nothing real exciting but enough to get me to finally make the decision to get a storage unit to put everything in.

Since the cost of renting a storage unit isn’t cheap, I needed to get it done fast. It’s almost $200 a month for a 10′ x 30′ unit.

Getting Everything Out Took Forever

I thought it was going to take about a week to empty the house but it ended up taking almost three weeks. Every time I thought I was almost done with a room, I would move something and there would be ten things underneath it.

It was awful to say the least. The storage room was the worst!!

Load after load went to the storage unit. I tried to keep it organized but eventually it got to that point where I just started shoving things in. Even though I tried really hard to not let that happen, it did.

Everything is still there but hopefully for not much longer. I need to start sorting it all out. There’s so much more that I’m willing to let go of now that I haven’t had it for a few months.

The kitchen is a huge example of what the family is going through. I keep getting asked where’s this, or where’s that in a sarcastic type tone like they’re waiting for me to say in the storage shed. But I really kept the things we use regularly at the house and so I can always say it’s in the cabinet.

We don’t need to have five pairs of tongs here. We don’t need 4 potato peelers. One of each is enough. So there’s a big mind shift that we all need to go through.

Anyways, I made my first video about the storage unit. I hope you check it out! It’s pretty short and pretty goofy but I thought I would try something new! Have I mentioned how lost I am without anything to do?

  • We had our forced emptying of the house when it flooded. The crew who packed up the house took 4 days. It sure made it easy to get a box and “declutter” as I emptied it.
