Sneak Peek of the Living Room

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to post pics of the new house but for now, I’m going to give you a sneak peek of the living room!

It’s not the picture perfect Pinterest picture that you’re probably hoping for but it’s real life and I’m actually pretty proud of it in all it’s messiness.

I’ll tell you why.

We’ve lived here for six months already. I was terrified that after 6 months, it would look like the old house. So when my daughter and her two kiddos left two days ago, after getting stuck here overnight thanks to a sudden snowstorm, I saw something that I had to capture.

The living room had been ravaged by a two year old for two days. There were pillows and blankets everywhere since they had to sleep on the couches. There were baby things all over the place because babies need a million things you know.

After we got them all packed up and on their way home, I walked in and saw something that made me smile.

It wasn’t an awful mess that would take me days to clean. There were blankets to put away but it wasn’t blankets on top of clutter on top of blankets.

I smiled because that living room mess would be cleaned up in 5 minutes, not hours or days.

Granted, it is a very small living room. It’s smaller than the living room at my old house, kind of. But to not have an overwhelming mess is a wonderful feeling.

I’m still getting used to it. There’s areas that I’d like to declutter already and the kitchen is hopeless but the living room makes me see things clearer.

It’s not perfect and I haven’t done any decorating really. It’s all been about keeping the excess out. This area can be straightened up enough in 5 minutes to let someone come over without any notice.

What other changes are happening in there?

The couches are comfy and we can sit and talk now. There’s an ottoman that doubles as a toy box and it works out great! As the babies grow out of toys, they get put on eBay. I’m not attached to them like I was with my own kids’ toys which helps a lot.

I’ll post a better picture later when it’s actually cleaned up but I wanted to share this feeling with you. It’s a new feeling for me, having a clean room in a couple of minutes, and I love it.

I still worry everyday that I’m going to let it get out of control but I’m taking it day by day for now. Doing what I can to keep it from getting to be too much.

So, here it is! I hope you like it!
