The Saturday Morning Routine Is Taking Shape

Pre-covid, there was no Saturday morning routine because I usually wasn’t home. We would be rushing out the door to get to a horse show or tack sale or horse clinic.

These days, with no place to go, I get up on Saturday mornings, feed the cats, play a few rounds of Toy Blast and then clean up the kitchen.

Usually by Wednesday, the kitchen is getting a little messy and I can’t wait to get the dishwasher running.

Then I run out of time and by Friday, I figure that I might as well wait until Saturday.

So there’s the start of the Saturday morning routine. I start the day by running the dishwasher. Then I clean off the counters. If that’s all that I get done, it’s enough.

And that’s my routine so far.

Sometimes I’ll go through the refrigerator or take the garbage out. Sometimes I’ll sweep the floor, wash off the stove or wash the appliance doors.

But no matter what, I run the dishwasher and clean off the counters.

By doing this routine and only this routine, I have time for the other things that I want to get done. Yesterday, I finally worked on getting some eBay things listed.

Since I was able to get all that done yesterday, I’m free today for a few things that in the past, I would’ve been too busy to do, no matter how important they seemed.

Something very bad happened this week to a very good friend and her family. We’ve been friends since we were young kids. A few years ago, her husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer. He’s been doing well but on Tuesday, his workshop burnt down to the ground.

That workshop means everything to him and there’s no way to stress how much to you but he’s completely devastated. Not only is he battling cancer but now he lost half of his income stream among everything else that he has spent years building.

So today we’re going over there for moral support and to help with anything else that we can. In the past, I would’ve felt guilty for not staying home to get things done here but these days, I’m making it a priority to have my priorities straight.

This is way more important than any cleaning or decluttering could ever be. I was over there all night Tuesday and it was the same way. I was glad that I could be there with them without feeling so much guilt about the house.

Don’t let excessive clutter get a grip on your life. People should always come first.

Getting routines in place can help, even if they’re small ones – like running the dishwasher and cleaning off a small counter.

That is awful!! Poor guy! That’s wonderful that you can spend time with them. They really need some love, and moral support. <3
