Someday it will be worth a fortune! Fisher Price Toys

I’m hoarding Fisher Price toys because someday they will be worth something. Really? Is that the only reason why you’re keeping them? Would you like to know what they’re really worth so that you can decide if all of those years of taking up storage space in your house has been worth it? Let’s take a look at this Play Family Village on eBay.

The first place that I usually start in determining a value is eBay. But don’t just go to the website, type in the name of the item and then look through those. Those are only what people are asking for the items. It doesn’t mean that’s what they’re going to get for it. I could list this set for $500 but it might only be worth $5.00. That’s why it doesn’t matter what things are listed for.

Instead, look at the search options on the left side of the screen. Near the bottom, under Show Only, choose Sold Listings. Click it and then you will be able to see what similar items have recently sold for and what people are willing to pay for it.

One other thing to look at is the shipping. You need to add that into the value. For example, if an auction ended at $130 and they paid $20 for shipping, they were actually willing to pay $150 for the item.

So, what am I going to do with this set? I have a lot of other Fisher Price toys that I might let go but I think this one will be staying. I did find one in a similar condition for almost $200.

The other thing that I might do with some of the other sets is keep the best one of the duplicates and get rid of the ones in bad condition.

If the stickers are ripped off or there’s scribbling on any of the parts, it drastically reduces their value.

For the more common vintage Fisher Price houses like the yellow and brown Tudors, I only keep one. The houses themselves aren’t really worth much at all. I don’t see the buildings alone for much more than $20 anywhere. It’s the smaller parts that hold most of the value.

I tried to sell one of the yellow houses at a rummage sale for 50 cents and I couldn’t even get that for it. That’s definitely not worth the storage space!! Even if I could get $20.00, it still probably wouldn’t be worth it to me to keep it unless I have enough of the other parts to make a complete set.

Here’s my tip: You don’t have to get rid of everything. Give yourself permission to keep something if you really love it. I love my vintage Fisher Price toys but I don’t need doubles and triples of every piece I find. I also don’t have to buy all the ones that I find especially if they aren’t in excellent condition.

I’ve been giving myself permission to keep the things I love but push myself to scale down to make sure I’m not overdoing it.
