The List of House Goals for 2018

I’m very anxious to finish up this house.  It’s far from being done but I only have a few minutes here and there to work on it so it’s taking forever.  In the meantime, the list keeps getting longer and longer.

Front yard needs a lot of work. Everyone has been throwing things into a utility trailer and we need to go through it.  It’s so full right now that there’s a bike sticking out over the top of the sides.  It makes the yard look like a junk yard.

Front Porch

I want to take everything off the front porch and start over.  I would like to see it as a clean slate.  This is the main project for this year but it’s also a summer project so I won’t be starting on it for awhile.

Living Room

Christmas tree needs to come down.  Lots more decluttering.  Desk project – my son is making a desk but we’ve been disagreeing on the height that it should be for about a year now.  If we ever agree, he’ll finish it up.

More decluttering

Finishing touches, like replacing molding by the doorways.

Hang pics on walls

I would like to start over in here too but I need to get some more decluttering done first. I have a wall that I can hang all of my pots and pans on but they aren’t even close to fitting.  I’d like to get the majority of them to fit.

Needs an actual remodel.  This year.  Just need to save up more money.

Carpet needs to come out but I was hoping to wait until the bathroom was finished.  I’m still debating on whether or not I will get started or wait.  I have enough to do besides this so if I don’t get to it, it’s okay.  However, the carpet is really ugly and worn out.  It’s gross.

The storage room is the biggie up here.  With the kids moving around, this room has been filling up again.  It needs a lot of work but it’s my current project.  I’d like to finish it in the next couple of weeks.

Go through more clothes.  I have severe thyroid problems so I gain and lose a lot of weight often.  I need to get rid of all the clothes that I’m not crazy about.

Attic room

Decluttering.  This room was the stash and dash room for awhile so it’s stuffed full.  It also has a lot of my son’s things in it.  Since he has a house now, I might pack some of it up and take it to him.

Major decluttering necessary.  The garage is one of those areas that ends up being a catch all.  There’s way too much random stuff in here and when the door is open, it screams “Hoarders live here”.

Major decluttering.  This is probably the very worst area of the house right now.  It needs a lot of work but I hate being down there so I always procrastinate on it.

The Whole House

The whole entire house still needs general decluttering.

Letting the Table Go

I wish I would have taken a picture of the table but I didn’t think of it until I was getting ready to leave the city dump.  At one time, it was a beautiful little table but last fall, while I was re-doing my living room, it ended up outside.  I didn’t mean for it to end up outside but I didn’t have enough room for it.  I only wanted it out there while I moved things around but it never made it back in.  I had it under a tarp but our weather has been wonderful for mold and it got a hold of the table, along with a lot of water.

So, I had to let it go.

Here’s the story of the table and why it was very hard for me to throw it into that giant dumpster.

I was at a rummage sale and the lady had a lot of stuff that I really liked.  She was really nice and we had a lot in common.  When I saw the table that she was selling for $20, I loved it.  It was so pretty and elegant looking.  I went to get the money out and realized that I didn’t have enough.  She was an older lady and it almost seemed like her daughters were pressuring her to get rid of things so they convinced her to let me buy it for less.  I think I only had $12 or $15 and she seemed very hesitant but then she said, “I’ll give it to for that if you promise to love it as much as I did.”

I feel terrible about what happened to the table.  I almost kept it even though my mom kept telling me that it needed to go.  And then the guy that was helping me unload the trailer of stuff at the dump looked at it and said, “It’s toast.”  I knew he was right so I put it in the dumpster.

I’m still a little sad about it tonight but at least it’s not outside my house anymore.  The building inspector should be along any day now and that’s one less thing in my yard, which by the way, isn’t looking too bad.
