Another Month End is Here

Where are the weeks and months going? And why are they going so fast? How is another month end here already?

So much has happened the last two weeks, all while I sat at my desk and worked, oblivious to most things or unable to do anything about them.

My friend’s workshop burning down was huge. They are still struggling with that whole situation. It’s hard to go from a workshop full of tools that was built up over decades, with love and hard work, down to a few screwdrivers. Thankfully no one in the family was hurt but it still hurts the heart and soul. Yesterday, their furnace broke and they need to get a new one. The timing is unreal.

The Texas weather situation was unbelievable. Since I live in the Midwest, the below zero temps are pretty normal this time of year. If I had heard about it on the news, there’s no way that I really would’ve grasped the seriousness of the situation.

But this year, I know people in Texas thanks to the internet. I’ve read lots of posts from friends who have shared their stories. They were heart wrenching. I could feel the horror and anger through their words. Being without electricity when it’s below zero really is terrifying and that’s exactly what so many were going through.

This week, the temps are in the 60’s there and there’s one word that comes to mind – JEALOUS! We’ll still have those near zero temps for a while. There will be fewer and fewer but nonetheless, the cold will be bone chilling and relentless for at least the next 2 or 3 months. Right now, there’s still well over a foot of snow blanketing the entire city. After about 2 months of clouds, we finally saw sun yesterday. Yay!!

And then there’s work. We had a meeting last week that left me feeling uneasy. There were quite a few references to us returning to work sometime in the near future. They told us that we’re working working from home through the end of May but it’s still undecided what’s happening after that.

That gives me a stomachache. I love working at home.

On a more positive note, I did go see my horse yesterday. He always looks extra beautiful when I haven’t seen him in awhile. It was nice seeing all of the animals at the barn. There’s about 30 cats now but a pig and a mini horse didn’t survive this harsh winter. That’s so sad. So much for that positive note.

And now it’s month end. If you’re not an accountant, that probably doesn’t mean much. To me, it means 12-16 hour work days for the next week. On top of that, I have some tax reports that are due by the end of today. I’m hoping to get them done but if not, I’ll be working over the weekend. Again.

  • Beautiful Horse! I think they should just continue working from home. Easier on the overhead, no commuting for employees.

    • Thank you! His colors are so pretty in the winter. 😊 I totally agree about staying home! I’m praying that’s the final decision.
