No Offers After The First Weekend of Showings

The first weekend of showings didn’t go well. The whole weekend went by with no offers on the table. It was very disappointing.

During the week, we had more showings than we were expecting.

Every time someone was coming over, we had to pack up all the cats and find someplace to go with them It was really rough so we started hanging out at the storage unit with them.

More rude comments and still no offers.

The realtor was close to giving up. He admitted that our house was very near the top of his most challenging list. The only one he could think of that was more challenging involved a divorcing couple where the guy ended up in prison and they had to do the closing there.

The thing that was frustrating him the most was that everybody who went through the house had a different reason for not liking it.

  • The price was too high.
  • Didn’t like the location.
  • Didn’t like the layout of the house.
  • Too much work needed.
  • Kitchen needs too much updating.

There wasn’t one common thing that we could focus on so we didn’t know where to start.

I wasn’t going down without a fight though so I invited a few friends over to walk through the house. I asked them to tell me what might be some things that were turning people off.

We found a lot of little things that could be fixed. We realized that all these tiny things were adding up in people’s heads as lots of work to be done. It didn’t matter that they were small things because together they equaled work.

After they left, I took out all the ripped screens, painted the yellow bedroom a neutral color, broke out a part of the kitchen counter that was broken, got the pool out of the backyard and worked on the curb appeal.

The showings for my friends were the best ones.

I wasn’t sure if it was going to help but we only had one weekend left to make this happen.

I had to try so we at least had a chance.
